Ed VanDyne
Founder, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer

Mr. VanDyne is a successful inventor, entrepreneur, and engineering manager, bringing more than 25 years of experience in automotive innovation and industry sales to the Company. At the age of 12 he started his first business buying, fixing and selling cars. Mr. VanDyne was the Founder and President of Adrenaline Research, Inc., a venture-backed spin-out from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, based on the SmartFire technology he invented and developed. The company was sold to Woodward six years ago, where Mr. VanDyne became the Director of Engine Systems Research. While at Woodward, Mr. VanDyne invented and developed the first SuperTurbocharger. Mr. VanDyne graduated from Northeastern with a double major in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He then went on to MIT, where he attended graduate school and ran the Racing Team, while working full time at Draper Laboratories. As head of the MIT Racing Team Mr. VanDyne designed, built, tested, and raced his own Formula V racing car to the New England SCCA Regional Championship. Mr. VanDyne received the first ever Draper Performance Award for his work managing a robotics development project that was completed six months earlier than scheduled.

Mark Herbst
Chief Operating Officer and General Manager

Mr. Herbst has spent over 25 years in the electronics manufacturing and high technology markets. His background includes 13 years as a Division President at The Dii Group; a spinout of Dover Corporation in 1993. The Dii Group was a global contract electronics design, engineering and manufacturing provider to leading OEMs around the world. As a senior executive of the corporation, Mark was involved in the development and execution of the plan that grew Dii’s annual sales from $100M at the time of the spinout to over $2B by 2000 at which point Flextronics International acquired the Company for $3B. Mr. Herbst then joined Carrier Access, a company with annual sales of over $150M and a leading provider of telecommunications access equipment, as the Chief Operating Officer. In this role Mark lead all of the product development, supply chain and manufacturing activities with an organization that totaled over 400 people. After departing Carrier Access, Mark has been involved with several early stage companies. Mark brings additional experience to VanDyne including developing scalable organizations, leading product development into a high volume manufacturing and establishing cost effective global supply chains. Mark graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelors Science Degree in Accountancy. Mr. Herbst serves on the Board of Directors of New Sky Energy and also is an Entrepreneur In Residence for the Global Social & Sustainable Enterprise Program at Colorado State University.

   
     

Thomas Waldron
VP Operations

Mr. Waldron brings 12 years of engineering and leadership experience to oversee the coordination of the full spectrum of company operations. Prior to joining VanDyne, he served as an Aviation Officer in the U.S. Army with combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq, reaching the rank of Major. His military awards include two bronze stars, two meritorious service medals and four air medals (one with Valor Device). As the VP Operations, Tom is responsible for managing the SuperTurbo engineering process and oversight of the test program. He has experience in the full development process, which progresses from computer modeling to prototype design and component production. Tom is additionally responsible for progress reporting to customers and coordinating activities with collaborating entities. Tom graduated with a Bachelors Science Engineering Management from West Point Military Academy and has an MBA from Colorado State University where he also taught military science for 3 years.

   
     

Dr. Volker Schumacher
Chief Scientist

Dr. Schumacher has a Doctorate of Engineering in the Heat, Force and Work of Turbine Engines. Dr. Schumacher designed turbine power plants for 20 years after graduation before joining Volkswagen, in order to design the engine for their first turbine powered car. For over 25 years he worked in the research division of Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Germany with a particular emphasis on engine design, turbines and advancing the normally aspirated combustion engine with turbochargers. Dr. Schumacher plays a key role in leading the research and calculation of new efficiency configurations and technologies that make SuperTurbochargers more efficient at VanDyne prior to their implementation into products.
